UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Michigan Wolverines have been down before and they will surely rise again. Just not with head coach Rich Rodriguez. Come on now to lose to Toledo last week on a missed field goal was bad enough. But the pitiful performance by the Wolverines on Saturday only added insult to injury as the Wolverines were spanked by Big Ten rival and BCS darling Penn State (3) 46-17.

"Even though it's frustrating, we're going to drive ahead," Rodriguez said.

The way that this team wilted away in the second quarter, never challenging the Nittany Lions again, has become somewhat of a badge of shame. Many fans watching the game had to be wondering, just who were these guys impersonating the Wolverines.

The fat lady is already tuning up as Michigan athletic director Bill Martin gave the besieged Rodriguez the dreaded public vote of confidence earlier last week just six games into his Michigan coaching career.

But that was before the massacre on Saturday.

Michigan returns to Ann Arbor for a match up with in-state rival Michigan State at the Big House next Saturday (Oct. 25). The Wolverines and Spartans will battle for the Paul Bunyan Trophy in a 3:36 p.m. EDT. The game will be televised by ESPN on ABC.
