Lockhart_Line 11.8 - DFW Sports Updates
Lockdawg returns to update the pitiful state of the DFW Sports market. If not for the Ranger's run to World Series, DFW fans wouldn't have anything to cheer about as the Stars are returning to their usual form after a hot start, the Mavs usually don't implode until the spring and that other semi-pro NFL team has just given up after they were shellacked against the Packers on Sunday night!!

Cowboys win now what?? The Cowboys reclaim the Lone Star state from the upstart Houston Texans with a complete win on Sunday to capture their first win of the season. The Cowboys performed with succinct expertise which resulted in successes in all three phases of the game...The Texas Rangers secured a playoff spot but who cares!! With so much being made of the Cowboys poor start news of the Texas Rangers clinching their first playoff birth since 1999 has been met by yawns by many sports fans in the DFW, but who cares really? If they don't get out the first round will anything have changed? Now, it's time for the Rangers to get healthy and prepare for the winner of the ultimate race for the AL East Championship between the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays and find a way to get out of the first round in team history....

Lockhart Line 4.16 (late edition) Tribute to Uncle B.
Tribute to Uncle B.
4.12.60 ~ 4.12.10
Today, we say so long, but not farewell to a man of many faces. Uncle B. wasn’t always the happiest person as I remember, but, in the last year I can say with certain confidence that He (The Lord) had made a change in the life of my uncle. Gone was the mean-spirited and sometimes cantankerous man who would offer you a knuckle sandwich if you looked in his direction the wrong way. A renewed and rejuvenated man now, sold out for Christ had been re-born. Now, he would sooner offer a hug, a smile, or a word of encouragement to help brighten your day. He had been looking for work and had enlisted my help. When we last spoke about a week or so ago, it was because I’d seen a posting for a job fair at AutoZone in Garland. I called my mom to tell her the info to pass along to Uncle B. but, she didn’t answer.
I left a message and before I could finish mom’s cell was beeping in. I quickly answered, “Hey mom, what’s up? Did you get my message?” To my surprise, it wasn’t mom on the other end but Uncle B. I could hear in his voice a subtle tone of despair because he still hadn’t found any work. I told him that we’d make it through and everything would be alright. As we ended the call he told me he loved me and for the first time that I could remember I loved him just as much as he loved me. I wanted badly to help Uncle B. because he had stepped in and performed so admirably since he’d moved in with mom about a year or so ago.
Well, gladly B. didn’t get the job he’d been searching for in this state or the world for that matter. Unbeknownst to any of us, he had applied to and been accepted with an exclusive construction company. The requirements were simple live holy and never get tired. A man with a heart as big as B’s would be just the man for that job! See, this construction company is starting a new development. He’d be assigned to the mansion building department at Heavenly Gates Construction Co. With joy and gladness in my heart I can say that through it all, I’ve learned, as my uncle did, to depend upon the Lord.
As you leave today, don’t be sad or blue but, be comforted in knowing that they are still taking applications at Heavenly Gates and positions are opening daily. If you have been waiting until later to apply, don’t be a fool and miss out on the opportunity to work for the one employer who will never fire you. If you need help finding a number to dial to reach someone at the company, don’t worry or fret because the lines at Heavenly Gates are open 24/7/365 and the line is always answered by the C.E.O. himself and his name is Jesus. Just fall on your knees and speak from your heart and surely he’ll come into your life and offer you a position to be on the roll. I love you all and I miss my uncle but, he is in a better place now. Be blessed.
~ Reginald D. Lockhart, Nephew

Lockhart Line 4.8 - Tiger's New Nike Ad Stirs the Pot
The booming baritone of the late Earl Woods awakens from the grave and he has questions for Tiger. Among the questions that the post-humus parent wants answered in the latest TV ad from Nike, Inc., is if Tiger has learned his lesson? No, disrespect to the man asking the question but, the answer is a resounding, No!
With all of the prying from tabloid media outlets, Woods hasn't had time to learn much of anything in the few months since the news of his string of tawdry infidelities began making national headlines. Besides, Woods spent several years being a turd so he's going to need more than a few months to learn anything. Some will say that the TV ad is out too soon for any real reflection to occur by Woods or anyone else close to the situation.
Many others will say that it is downright distasteful for the disgraced Woods to try to bank on his indiscretions with the aid of his deceased father.
I disagree with that notion entirely.
We live in a "green society" and by "green" I'm not talking about clean coal technologies or hybrid cars. I'll borrow a phrase from rapper DJ Quik, who once famously said, "If it don't make dollars, then it don't make sense!" Now that Woods is back playing the game of golf, anyone that gets back on the Woods band wagon will be making more green than they've ever seen!

Lockhart Line 4.7 Erykah's Window Seat...Turning Heads and Making Headlines
Erykah Badu's now infamous video "Window Seat" is doing more than just turning heads. In fact the artist is still making headlines a week or so later after the video which some have labeled as "shocking" went viral on the Web.
After meeting with the city prosecutors, the Dallas police have decided to cite the singer for disorderly conduct and sent her the ticket in the mail.
Look, I'm not going to act like I'm naive. I get it. Not only was an illegal venture, but the low-budget guerilla or rogue video was filmed in broad daylight, in plain view of families visiting Dealey Plaza, where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
Erykah's move was an extraordinarily provocative one considering how she ends the video by dis-robing and then falling in a lifeless heap, at almost the exact location where the then president met the fate of the assassin's bullet on the "grassy knoll" more than 40 years ago.
But, come on man! It's 2010 not 1910! This was art plain and simple to label it otherwise would be tragic.

Will the iPad take us completely paperless?
The much anticipated iPad will make it's techno-world splash this weekend (April 3, 2010), however, the number of those to get wet by the device, is still yet to be determined. Any good Sci-Fi movie teaches us, that "too much technology" can sometimes and in most cases kill those that it was designed to help. As a blogger/sports writer, I can find many potential uses for this new device but so far I'm still not sold, yet.
Steve Jobs unveiled the iPad in January, showing off a tablet computer with a 9.7-inch (25-centimeter) touch screen that can serve up Web pages, e-mail, music, videos, games, electronic books and iPhone applications. (Business Week)
Although the device is bigger and more powerful than a smartphone but smaller and less powerful than a laptop, what it lacks in power and performance it makes up in simplicity and fun. Computerworld writer MIke Elglan believes the unit will be huge. " I'm no fanboy," he said. "I've tried to envision some conceivable series of events that might leave the iPad as only moderately successful, but I can't come up with any. All circumstances, facts and events in technology, media and elsewhere seem to point to the same inexorable outcome: The iPad will be huge."
Check out the video review I found on YouTube.

Pep rally and protesters make for raucous and at times ugly build-up to House health care vote - latimes.com

As the hour reaches near for the pivotal "up or down" House vote on the much belabored and belegured healthcare bill, tabbed by some as "Obamacare or a government takeover of one-sixth of the United States economy, the gloves have truly come off now. The ugly truth behind the Tea Party movement is that it is filled with hate.
Today, as lawmakers made their way into Congress many were faced with horrible reminders of America's turbulent past. Some black lawmakers report being spat upon and having racial epithets hurled at them that brought back memories of the racially charged civil rights movements of the 1960s.
Democratic Whip Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., said "I heard people saying things today that I have not heard since March 15, 1960, when I was marching to try to get off the back of the bus," Clyburn told reporters. (latimes.com)
It's sad that after so much progress has been made in the 21st century in bridging the great racial divide in this country, when the rubber meets the road, America still hasn't changed that much. And when faced with formidible obstacles to their own ignorance, they only get more ignorant and abusive instead of showing any sense or sensibility.
Beyond the outright racists remarks from some of the opposition crowd. The facts are simple, if the bill is passed things will be better for consumers and businesses than not doing anything. At a minimum 30 million more Americans will have the ability to get healthcare if the historic legislation is passed than are able to get coverage today. As far as changes in coverages for those who currently have insurance not much will change, except they'll get more out of the coverages they have now but at a slightly higher price.
However, if nothing is done those with coverages will pay higher prices for sure as their insurers raise premiums without any restrictions and those without any coverage will be left to continue to fill emergency rooms at the taxpayer's expense. Check the facts.

Editorial: Dismal graduation rate for Cal's basketball team is an embarrassment - San Jose Mercury News
Editorial: Dismal graduation rate for Cal's basketball team is an embarrassment - San Jose Mercury News
U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan is not pleased with the latest news coming out of the Sunshine State and if he had his way the Bears would be home studying instead of preparing for a first round matchup against the Cardinals of Louisville.
The University of California has one of the highest rates for tuition for it's students in the country but they also have one of the nation's lowest rate of graduation for it's basketball players. Doesn't sound like they are getting enough bang for their buck!!
But Cal's embarrassing 20 percent rate of graduation isn't the worst. That dubious distinction belongs to the University of Maryland (8 percent). Still I think the Secretary of Education has the right idea about banning schools with graduation rates lower than 40 percent. What do you think?

Lockhart Line 3.8 Sports News NBA West Conf Update - Who's Hot - Mavs and Who's Not - Lakers
Lockdawg gives a Monday morning rant on the latest in the NBA West Conf playoff race. The Dallas Mavericks are hotter than fish grease winners of 12 in a row getting ready to face the Minnesota T-Wolves and the LA Lakers have been uncharacteristically poor in a phases of the game and are now on their first 3-game losing streak in years. One thing is for sure the Lakers have been there and done that and have the rings to show for it. But ,what about those Mavericks?? Are they just setting up the fans for another playoff failure??

Lockhart Line 3.6 Sports News: Rose is right on Griner!
We live in a world of so much infatuation with the "trainwrecks of life", that whenever one of us has the decency to call foul and say enough is enough with the over sensationalized, salivating, sexy stories to promote women's sports. No matter how you slice it ESPN Analyst and former NBA player Jalen Rose was right to say that the Griner punch has no place in the game of sports and she should be done for the year. Do you agree or dis agree? Leave a comment.
