Busch/Edwards get NASCAR Timeout!!

Today NASCAR placed Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards on probation for the next six Sprint Cup Series races as a punishment for their on-track fracas last weekend at the end of the race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

As the cars were completing the cooldown lap after Edwards' Ford took the checkered flag Saturday night, Busch drove alongside of Edwards and bumped his car. Edwards' not be out done decided to drive the nose of his winning vehicle into the side of Busch's Toyota and spun him out.

Afterwards, neither driver was willing to concede any wrong doing and both men thumped on their respective chests even harder.

Kyle Busch - "We'll go on and we'll race him that way in the Chase if that's the way he wants to race." (AP)

Carl Edwards - "A real smart racer explained it to me this way after he wrecked me and I was real mad. He said, 'I just had to look at your rear bumper and decide if you would do this to me, and you had, and so it was a real simple decision,'" "I'd do it again." (AP)

Ok, now let's get real. This so called "probation" is nothing more than a "timeout". I will admit that I am just a casual observer of NASCAR. But, geez probation for six races and no fines or point deductions for either driver. Is Mike Helton well? You better believe it, he's well. Hell he's smiling all the way to the bank!

The heads of NASCAR would have been fools to suspend their top two drivers. With only two races left before the race for the chase begins, this kind of energy buzz swirling around is breathing life into a sport which, touts only three things 1. speed 2. left hand turns and 3. Rednecks.

Admit it these guys should have been suspended because of their reckless actions, especially Kyle's. Like the little kid that wants to leave because he didn't get picked to play kickball Kyle's bumping of Carl was just juvenile. Though, Carl's response wasn't mature by any means either, he did follow one of my mom's rules, "If somebody hits you baby, You hit them right back even harder!!"

I know what you are going to say, (in Mom's voice) "Now boys' play nice!"

WHATEVER

The ever growing feud between the #1 (Carl "Mr. Ed" Edwards) and #2 (Kyle "The Whiner" Busch) drivers has brought a flare and fire back to this sport that has been missing since the untimely passing of the "Intimidator" Dale Earnhardt Sr.

Maybe, now that the "timeout" or "probation" is in place for the next six races (four of which are during the chase for the Sprint Cup) maybe NASCAR can get back to some good old friendly driving.

The swift action by NASCAR should serve as notice to the other drivers and they should the Mesolithic displays to the real brawlers of professional sports in the NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA.

I won't hold my breathe waiting on that to happen and neither should you!

GO CARL KICK SOME BUSCH!!
