JETS GET BRET!! JETS GET BRET!!

The New York Jets officially announced the signing of former Green Bay Packers quarterback Bret Favre today. The legendary ironman was dismissed by the Packers after an exhaustingly long ordeal that saw the future hall of famer retire and then comeback, only to be traded away like a "black licorice jelly bean" for a fourth round draft pick.

"It's like a marriage that ends," Green Bay president Mark Murphy said. "It happens. Neither party is at fault." (AP)

"We wish him the best," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. "There's no ill feelings. He has a positive reputation within this organization." (AP)

Now, can we please move forward!!

"I'm here for one reason. Not to do commercials, Broadway, all those things," Favre said Thursday after joining New York for its exhibition opener in Cleveland. "I'm here to help the Jets win." (AP)

The news of this dramatic trade brings a smile to my face as selfishly I think that my Dallas Cowboys will benefit from playing an inexperienced Aaron Rodgers in week three of the upcoming season instead of the wily veteran Brett Favre.

Truthfully, my opinion is that Aaron will the be biggest beneficiary of today's trade as he will have his greatest opportunity to succeed or fail this season. Nothing shy of a Superbowl run will do anything to silence the droves of fans that will still be chanting, "WE WANT BRETT!! WE WANT BRETT!!" this year; but Aaron should truly take the bull by the horns and show the world that he's poised and ready to conceive it, believe it and achieve it. And we all know what that "it" is and that's a championship!!

I do applaud the Packers for doing the admirable thing in trading Brett Favre to the American Football Conference (AFC) Eastern Division. This way he will be able to savor his legacy in Packer-land regardless of how big a bite the Big Apple takes out of him this year.

What theater and drama for the upcoming season! The cast of characters is now set. The Big Tuna in Miami, The Patriots starring the "usual suspects" Belichick, Brady, Moss; and, ummm...The Buffalo Bills.

Are you ready, really ready...for some FOOTBALL??!!??
